Personal Update

Just wanted to let my readers know that I'll be getting all four wisdom teeth pulled this morning, so I'll be taking a couple days off to recover. Hopefully I'll be back to posting by the end of the week -- if not sooner. Hope you all have a good week - I know I'll be trying to finish reading the rest of the Karen Rose book I picked up last week.

Take Care,
Rose

Dreaming of: An Apartment in Paris

themona

Okay. So last year when I was looking for vacation ideas for me and my husband, I stumbled upon these gorgeous apartments that you can rent in Paris - they are specifically meant for vacationers and are an alternative to staying at a hotel. I've been fantasizing about them ever since. The company that handles them is called Isabelle's Apartments, aptly named after the woman who runs it. There is a large variety of apartments available for rent, with detailed information on each. These photos are from two of my favorites. They are actual photos of the apartments. I thought I would share them with you all in case you too, were dreaming of a Paris vacation.

Loving Luisa Beccaria

luisabeccari

I'm not sure if many of you remember, but my very first post was about Luisa Beccaria. There's just something about Luisa's designs that has me coming back for more time and time again. I love how absolutely soft and feminine everything is. Gorgeous. Here's a whole post full of some of my favorite looks by her. Chronologically arranged, of course.

January 20th 2009; Inauguration Day

inaugurationday

I am extremely proud to be able to witness this momentous occasion, and so happy I will be able to tell my future grandchildren about this day. Good luck to our 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Obama.

"We know the battle ahead will be long, but always remember that no matter what obstacles stand in our way, nothing can withstand the power of millions of voices calling for change.

We have been told we cannot do this by a chorus of cynics who will only grow louder and more dissonant in the weeks to come. We’ve been asked to pause for a reality check. We’ve been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope.

But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope. For when we have faced down impossible odds; when we’ve been told that we’re not ready, or that we shouldn’t try, or that we can’t, generations of Americans have responded with a simple creed that sums up the spirit of a people.

Yes we can.

It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a nation.

Yes we can.

It was whispered by slaves and abolitionists as they blazed a trail toward freedom through the darkest of nights.

Yes we can.

It was sung by immigrants as they struck out from distant shores and pioneers who pushed westward against an unforgiving wilderness.

Yes we can.

It was the call of workers who organized; women who reached for the ballot; a President who chose the moon as our new frontier; and a King who took us to the mountaintop and pointed the way to the Promised Land.

Yes we can to justice and equality. Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity. Yes we can heal this nation. Yes we can repair this world. Yes we can." -- Words spoken by President Barack Obama on January 8, 2008

Etsy Find: Art By Miss Brigette B.

First things first: So sorry about the small lull in posts! In between dentist visits, house hunting and work I've had no time left over to devote to my blog. Hopefully things have calmed down for the time being; but I must warn you that I'll be getting all four wisdom teeth removed next week. Eep!

Now that, that is done... check out the awesome art of Miss Brigette B. It was very difficult to choose only three prints to show you. All of her art is great. If you don't believe me just check it out for yourself: here is a link directly to her etsy shop.

Calming Wednesday: Little House on the Prairie

littlehouseonthe

When I'm having a bad day, little soothes me more that to pick up at random a book out of The Little House on the Prairie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Every year I read through each of these books at least once. I picked up my current copies from a used bookstore about two years ago -- I combed several different stores until I found the version my Mother had, and that I grew up reading (yellow covers). Unfortunately they were not in the best condition and have since started to fall apart. I'll need to purchase new copies soon, but none of the ones currently available on Amazon really appeal to me (see photo above). What I desperately wish for is for the entire series to be reprinted and bound in individual hard cover volumes in a style similar to the Jane Austen Collection below (which is available at Barnes and Noble here). I know there is a leather bound version of the series floating around out there, but not only is it rare to find the collection, but those that I've seen are being sold for well over $2000. So, if any of you publishing companies out there are listening, please don't make me beg for this!

Instant Blog Favorite: Once Wed

oncewedorchardp1oncewedorchardp2

Perhaps I'm just behind on my blog reading, but I just recently discovered a truly wonderful blog; Once Wed. I love it so much I just had to share it with you all -- it is seriously that good. I cannot tell you how often I visit wedding related blogs, even though I've been married for over two years now. Not only are they a great inspiration for wedding ideas, but you can easily take what you see for a wedding and use it for any sort of get together you may be having, whether extravagant or laid-back; I find that a lot of ideas really transfer well. Once Wed is an immediate favorite and one I've added to my list of wedding related blogs I now visit regularly. The above images are from a bi-monthly Table Trends feature that they started a few months ago - it is in the theme of An Orchard Wedding, when I saw it, I immediately fell in love. And let me tell you, if this post had been around when I got married I would have definitely run with this idea - it sweetly perfect for the intimate wedding I wanted to create. I must say that the best part of this feature is that it can be re-created for a mere $250 - with supplies and materials that are easily attainable - in fact, all the Table Trends they featured are created for just $200-250. I would definitely urge you to visit Once Wed for amazingly inspirational ideas.
